Possible Functional Regression of Insulinoma with Prolonged Octreotide

Craig C , Gallen I

A 75 year old woman was treated for over three years with the somatostatin analogue, octreotide for insulinoma. She had presented in a hypoglycaemic coma. C-peptide and insulin levels were both raised. Cortisol, TSH, a gut hormone screen and urinary sulphonylurea levels were all normal. No adenoma was identified on CT or MRI scanning but angiography showed an area of increased vascularity within the pancreas. At laparotomy no lesion was found and no resection was undertaken. B...

Targeting the ferroptosis-macrophage crosstalk in adrenocortical carcinoma

Triebig Alexandra , Weigand Isabel , Atici Sena , Angeli Jose Pedro Friedmann , Kroisz Matthias

Background: Ferroptosis is an emerging form of regulated necrotic cell death characterized by excessive lipid peroxidation. Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) cells have been shown to be highly susceptible to ferroptosis caused by active steroid hormone synthesis. While therapeutic activation of ferroptosis has been proposed as a novel treatment strategy, its impact on the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) remains elusive. Macrophages are an important TIME component and modulat...

Anti-diabetic properties of the ethanolic extract of unripe Artocarpus heterophyllus fruit regulates glucose homeostasis in high-fat-fed diet-induced obese mice

Ansari Prawej , Hannan JMA , R. Flatt Peter , HA Abdel-Wahab Yasser

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent diabetes) has been universally acknowledged as a chronic public health concern and the leading cause of mortality on a global scale. Plant-based bioactive compounds have made significant contributions to the management of diabetes mellitus globally. Artocarpus heterophyllus, also known as “kathal” in the subcontinent, is rich in dietary fibre and has traditionally been used as a diabetes remedy. The current stu...

To study the Diabetic Foot at risk using an A 60 second Foot Screening Tool and Risk classification based on the comprehensive foot examination in patients of diabetes - At a Tertiary care Center East India

Behera Kishore , Soren Uttam , Behera Binod Kumar

Introduction: The aetiology of a diabetic foot ulcer is multifactorial. The three principal components that ascertain the likelihood of ulceration in a diabetic foot are peripheral neuropathy, repeated minor trauma and deformity. Aims:To find the prevalence of diabetes patients having the foot at risk using the Simplified 60-Second Diabetic Foot Screen tool (SSDFST).Objectives: To find out the diabetic foot at risk.1. To ascertain the dispersal of variou...

Treatment of hyperthyroidism reduces the systemic oxidative stress load, as measured by biomarkers of rna and dna damage

Bogelund Larsen Camilla , Ryom Riis Kamilla , Hillert Winter Kristian , List Larsen Emil , Ellervik Christina , Hegedus Laszlo , Brix Thomas , Enghusen Poulsen3 Henrik , Joop Bonnema Steen

Background: Increased oxidative stress has been linked to both hypo- and hyperthyroidism. Whole-body oxidative stress can be estimated by the oxidized guanine nucleosides, 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanosine (8-oxoGuo) and 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2’-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG), derived from RNA and DNA, respectively. These biomarkers have been associated with increased morbidity and mortality in several diseases but are not well explored in humans with thyroid disorders.<p class="abste...

Saqib Aaisha , Simo Ricard , Paul Carroll

In 2022, a 63 year old woman was referred for assessment of a six month history of gastro-oesophageal reflux symptoms and dysphagia. Upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy was normal apart from mild reflux oesophagitis. A computerized tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a 2 cm nodule medial to the caudate lobe of the liver, a 1.5 cm nodule in the right lung base and two further sub cm nodules in the right lung lobe. In terms of background, the patient had a benign breast lump und...

Hyperpigmentation leading to depression in Addison’s disease: Case report

Masood Faryal

Addison’s disease (AD) occurs when 90% of the cortex of Adrenal Glands is affected. Most common causes of AD are autoimmune destruction, tuberculosis, hemorrhage due to meningococcal meningitis, metastatic cancers and adrenoleukodystrophy. AD is associated with other autoimmune disorders e.g., vitiligo, type-1 diabetes or hypothyroidism. Due to non-responsiveness of adrenals to Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), α-melanocyte stimulating hormone levels increases and...
